Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Giberson, as a father of two children, understands the best means of making a child's visit to the dentist a pleasant experience.  He spent his high school and college summers teaching swimming lessons to children as young as three years old.  Having treated many adults with dental phobias, Dr. Giberson understands and embraces the importance of making your child's visit to the dentist enjoyable.  We love kids and kids love us!  Most parents are amazed that their children are elated by their upcoming dental visit.

When should you schedule your child's first visit?

We recommend that children begin visiting the dentist for an examination and cleaning at age three and a half.  Six months prior to that initial visit, it is advisable for one parent to bring the child along on their regularly scheduled adult visit.  This provides the child an opportunity to become acquainted with us and the chance to sit in the motorized dental chair and become comfortable with the environment.  Stickers, rings and "glove balloons" all await your child as they walk out the door.

When fillings need to be performed

Dr. Giberson has found that nitrious oxide "laughing gas" is an excellent means of relaxing children prior to administering local anesthesia.  In the majority of our cases, children are not even aware of receiving an oral injection.  We find that it is best that the children have no awareness that they may receive an injection prior to the visit.

When should you consider orthodontic treatment for your child?

Orthodontic intervention can occur as early as seven years of age, depending on the individual child.  As your child develops, Dr. Giberson will make a professional recommendation as to when your child should be seen by an orthodontist.
